The Four Tops released this 1965 hit song, “It’s the Same Old Song,” only one year after recording and releasing 1964’s, “Baby I Need Your Loving.”
The Four Tops, from Detroit Michigan, developed what came to be known as the Motown sound. They remained in Detroit even after Motown Records re-located to California in 1972. The versatility of their musical style and range carried over into early Pop/Rock music, soul, Uptown Soul, and even disco. They had more longevity than any other popular bands from 1965-1997. They originally worked as back-up singers for The Supremes and also sang back-up for Martha and the Vandelas, other Motown legends.
Band members have included original singer, Levi Stubbs, Lawrence Payton, Renaldo “Obie” Benson, Theo Peoples, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, and Ronnie McNeir. Theo was also a member of The Tempatations.
